Dr. Valentin Fuster has received today the Grand Cross of the Civil Order of Health, the highest distinction of these decorations awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality in recognition of his career.
Dr. Fuster is one of the main assets of the Spain brand in biomedical research, prevention and addressing cardiovascular disease. He currently combines the positions of CEO of the National Centre for Cardiovascular Research Carlos III (CNIC), director of the Cardiovascular Institute and ‘Physician in chief’ of the Mount Sinai Medical Centre in New York. He is also the president of the SHE Foundation and president of the Observatory of Nutrition of the Spanish Health Ministry.
Dr. Fuster has devoted his professional life to the development of cardiology, to achieve advances in treatment and rehabilitation of diseases such as those affecting the coronary artery atherosclerosis and thrombosis, as well as the disclosure of healthy habits in favour of prevention CVD. He has been awarded Honoris Causa in thirty-three universities, has published more than 900 scientific articles and has chaired the American Heart Association, the World Heart Federation and the Training Program of the American College of Cardiology. His work earned him the Prince of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research.
In the award ceremony, Dr. Fuster thanked this recognition and said that health is his “main concern” and that the award is an incentive to “keep pushing scientific research and education excellence with the intention of promoting health in our country. “
