The VIVE Initiative is a joint project of the Pro CNIC Foundation and the SHE Foundation to improve cardiovascular health through the two most important ways of reducing these diseases: research and prevention. These are two necessary and complementary avenues for achieving an effective promotion of health. It is a joint effort, sharing resources and following the same strategy and objective, which is to switch from disease treatment to health care, in order to halt the unstoppable advance of the cardiovascular epidemic.
The Pro CNIC Foundation is made up of 13 of the biggest Spanish companies and was created from the commitment to finance the CNIC (Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares – National Cardiovascular Research Centre) in the long term. Valentin Fuster, MD, PhD is currently the general director of the CNIC.
“It is essential to work in the promotion of health through research and intervention, focusing on the acquirement of healthy habits at an early age, so that these habits are maintained for the rest of your life. Moreover, it is fundamental to apply a scientific methodology with an assessment of the results from these prevention studies, which could then be cross verified. The Vive Initiative will allow us to go a step further to achieve that.”
